A Foundation Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery has proved life changing for chef Alastair Roberts-Jones who ventured into catering late in his career.
Alastair was previously self-employed for many years before joining Compass Group UK & Ireland’s (ESS) at RRC Crickhowell and enrolling on a Level 2 Apprenticeship Programme with Cambrian Training Company.
“Through my apprenticeship, I have gained a promotion after learning the skills I need to progress in the business.
“I am now training the junior members of the team to fill my old position and then looking to take over my role, so that I can continue to progress through the ranks and make my career change a perfect outcome.
“I am looking forward to continuing my journey with Compass ESS with the superb support of everyone at Cambrian Training.
“The one to one training has strengthened and helped my confidence both inside and outside of the kitchen. I would have never thought, before starting the apprenticeship, that I would be cooking for hundreds of people without a second thought.”
Alastair is now working towards an Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery with Cambrian Training Company, supporting by hospitality training officer Will Richards.
His manager Stewart Wooles has enjoyed watching Alastair’s career develop. “He has developed into a tremendous talent, showing determination to continuously learn and develop his craft to continue to move forward in his new exciting career path.”
Let’s leave the final word to Alastair: “I came to the catering industry late and, I believe, I am a good example of what can be achieved with the help of the Apprenticeship Programme which has successfully changed my career for the better.
