Just reopened, and looking for new team members? Or maybe you need extra staff to deal with increased demand?
Whatever the reason for your vacancy, here’s a few top tips from one of our Business Engagement Officers, Debbie, on reaching & attracting the best candidates!
- Create a Social Media presence
Create social media accounts for your company on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Through these social media accounts, you can advertise your vacancy to attract prospective young candidates.
- Use your website
Advertise the vacancy on your Company Website – this is particularly effective if you have a dedicated section for recruiting e.g. “Work For Us” Page.
- Spread the Word
Employee referrals are a simple yet effective way of filling a vacancy. Ask your existing employees if they know anyone that would be suitable for the job. You could also encourage Employees to share jobs across their social networks.

- Focus on Job Centres & College Recruiting
Contact your local Job Centre as they offer 2-week Work experience programmes– this gives young people the opportunity to see for themselves how the workplace operates and what staff do on a day to day basis. If you are happy with the candidate, they could easily progress on to your Jobs Growth Wales vacancy.
Contact your local Colleges as they can offer job posting services and on-campus recruiting.
- Network with your Applicants
Have a phone call with the applicant, learn about them, and their skill set. Get into good conversations with the candidates before you invite them for an interview.
