Staff from one of Wales’ leading training providers will be putting in the hard yards to raise money for Cancer Research in 2019.
The company, which has offices in Welshpool, Llanelli, Builth Wells, Holyhead and Colwyn Bay, has set itself a challenge of running, walking and cycling 1,000 miles, visiting all 22 counties of Wales, during the year.
Staff are hoping that apprentices and employers, which the company works with, will join in the fundraising challenge for Cancer Research.
Cambrian Training is aiming to raise sponsorship of £1 per mile for the challenge, which will contribute towards the company’s £1,500 fundraising target for the charity.
If everything goes to plan, the company hopes to celebrate achieving the target when a Cambrian Training team takes part in the Cardiff Half Marathon in October.
It’s the second year running that the company has adopted Cancer Research as its charity, having raised £855 in 2018 with a Christmas Jumper Day, raffles, cake bakes, a Pink Day and a Try it Triathlon by marketing manager Katy Godsell.
“We have calculated that we need to cover 45.5 miles in each Welsh county to reach our target during 2019,” said Katy. “We chose to include all the counties to illustrate that Cambrian Training delivers apprenticeships across the whole of Wales.
“We have set up a fundraising page – https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/team-cambrian-challenge-2019 – so that funds will go directly to Cancer Research and the 1,000 miles can be completed by walking, running or cycling, but it’s essential that the distance is recorded.
“We are hoping that staff, apprentices and employers will want to get involved in this challenge for a charity that touches the lives of so many people in Wales. It would be great if we could hit our fundraising target by the time Team Cambrian runs Cardiff Half Marathon in October.”
Already registered in the team for the Cardiff Half Marathon are Katy, Vicky Watkins, Alex Hogg, Donna Heath, Kim Williams, Faith O’Brien and Tracey Dawson
The company will also be organising a series of other smaller activities throughout the year to contribute towards its fundraising target.
Cambrian Training specialises in the delivery of apprenticeships and employability opportunities across a range of industries pan-Wales. The Apprenticeship Programme in Wales is funded by the Welsh Government with support from the European Social Fund.
