Its National Careers Week and choosing what you would like to do after school is both exciting and daunting. There are lots of options available including taking on an apprenticeship.
Apprenticeships are sometimes overlooked and often people think they are only for trade jobs (electricians, plumbers, mechanics etc.) but this isn’t true at all there are exciting apprenticeship options in lots of different sectors including; accountancy, IT, law and management.
You can study at different levels gaining qualifications up to degree level just as you would get at university, but by taking on an apprenticeship you will have great work place experience and a range of transferable skills.
Apprenticeships are really a great option for anyone who wants to earn money whilst gaining a recognised professional qualification – an added bonus are no tuition fees! (These are covered by your employer and the government)
A few apprenticeship facts …
1. Apprenticeships are real jobs
You will be part of the business and the team, you will be given a contract of employment, holiday and sick pay – exactly the same as any other member of staff!
2. You will get a qualification
You will be part of the team but will be supported by your training officer who will be there to guide you through every step of the course.
3. Apprenticeships can take 1 – 4 years to complete
Apprenticeship qualifications can take between one to four years to complete depending on the level you are studying at.
4. You can do more than one apprenticeship qualification
After completing the qualification you could choose to undertake the next level gaining more qualifications including management and degree level.
5. Most apprentices stay in employment
A huge 92% of apprentices stay in their employment after completing their qualification
