Company’s Cambrian Way Path virtual walk will support Marie Curie
Staff from one of Wales’ leading apprenticeship providers are encouraging the apprentices and businesses they work with across Wales to join them virtually to walk the 291-mile Cambrian Way Path for charity.
Cambrian Training, which has offices in Welshpool, Llanelli, Builth Wells, Holyhead and Colwyn Bay, is launching the company’s 2021 fundraising challenge for Marie Curie on March 1, St David’s Day.
The choice of St David’s Day is particularly fitting as it’s the day when Welsh people celebrate their patron saint by wearing a daffodil, which also happens to be the emblem of Marie Curie, the UK’s leading end of life charity.
Marie Curie provides frontline nursing and hospice care, a free support line and a wealth of information and support on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement.
The Cambrian Way Path stretches from Cardiff to Conwy, crossing the Cambrian Mountains, after which Cambrian Training is named.
The company’s employees are all going to put on their working boots to contribute towards reaching the target and are hoping that the apprentices and businesses they work will also chip in.
Those taking part can either secure sponsorship and record the miles they walk or donate to a fundraising page – justgiving.com/fundraising/cambriantraining – to ultimately benefit Marie Curie, which has seen fundraising severely hit by the pandemic.
“Ideally, we would like the businesses and apprentices we work with to join us by committing to do a section of the walk virtually and create some friendly competition,” said Katy Godsell, Cambrian Training’s marketing manager.
“The more miles we walk, the more money we will raise for Marie Curie, which is a fantastic charity that touches the lives of so many people in Wales and needs public support more than ever.”
Charli Thomas, community fundraiser at Marie Curie, said: “While Marie Curie has continued to provide support during the pandemic, through our at home nursing service, information and support services and hospice, our fundraising has continued to be decimated due to the restrictions we are all facing.
“We are thrilled that Cambrian Training has chosen to support Marie Curie this year. Fundraising partnerships like this are vital to allow us to continue to help people living with a terminal illness, and support their loved ones with death, dying and bereavement.
“We want to thank all the staff and Cambrian Training for their amazing support during this time.”
Other fundraising events and activities for Marie Curie are planned by the company throughout 2021.
Two years ago, Cambrian Training raised £2,290 for Cancer Research by running, walking and cycling 1,000 miles, visiting all 22 counties of Wales, during the year. A team of staff members also ran the Cardiff Half Marathon for the charity.
