Workmates, friends and family members of Cambrian Training Company’s marketing manager Katy Godsell and Barclays Bank have teamed up to raise £2,526 for the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Seventy-six people, ranging in age from 87 years to toddlers in a pram, took part in the successful Cambrian Charity 5k Run in Welshpool on April 13 to raise £1,501, to which Barclays Bank added £1,000 in match funding.
One mum completed the five kilometre route with her two young children in a pram, while other children accompanied their parents in the family event, which started and finished at Welshpool Fire Station and included parts of Powis Castle Estate Park and the canal towpath.
Cambrian Training Company’s managing director Arwyn Watkins ensured that all those who completed the route were well fed at the end of their run or walk.
Delighted with the total raised for the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund,Katy thanked family members, friends and colleagues for volunteering and helping on the day and in the run up to the event.
She also thanked staff at Welshpool Fire Station for their support, Barclays Bank for match funding the event, Eric Neville for supplying disposal cups, bowls and spoons for refreshments and Jess Stait for leading warm up exercises before the run.
Katy, who works at Cambrian Training Company’s Welshpool headquarters, has recently completed treatment for breast cancer. Because the lives of several workmates have also been touched by cancer in recent years, there was no shortage of support for the charity.
“We decided to raise money for Lingen Davies Cancer Fund because cancer has touched the lives of so many staff, family and friends over the last couple of years,” she explained.
“We wanted to help this charity, which is committed to supporting local cancer patients across Mid Wales and Shropshire, as we have seen the benefits first hand and the difference that they make.”
In December, Katy joined work colleagues and friends to raise £533 for the charity by selling handmade decorations, making donations instead of sending cards and organising an auction, raffle, quiz and staff fancy dress day.
Lingen Davies Cancer Fund is committed to improving cancer services for the relief of cancer patients in Shropshire and Mid Wales, through the provision of specialist equipment and buildings. Over the years the charity has invested millions to improve the facilities for local cancer patients.
Louise Cliffe, the charity’s fundraising manager, said “I would like to thank everyone at Cambrian Training Company for organising the 5K event and for raising such a fantastic amount for our charity. We are grateful to everyone who helped to make this event such a huge success.”
